Making Better Presentations

Based on MBA Better Presentations Workshop given
Friday,  Jan.24 10-11:30 Building 255, room 140

1.    Introduction --- Consider the following:

  • What are some of your strengths and weaknesses when you give a presentation?
  • What are the elements of an effective presentation?
  • What is your next presentation?

2.   Here is a good 3 minute overview video (http://vimeo.com/22019665).   Consider the presenter's
key points.  What was good about his presentation?    Can you apply his ideas to your own
approach to presentations? How is his advice different?

3.   Models are important. Do you have any models for giving presentation?  Who are some good
models?   Where can you see great  presentations?  Watch 2-3 minutes of another presentation.   and  focus on voice and vocabulary.  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Etyt4osHgX0)
What is good about this presentation?

4.    You can easily practice giving a presentation by speaking for 2-3 minutes to a classmate,
recording yourself with a smartphone, and then getting feedback from your classmate.

Here is a sample evaluation rubric:

  1. With all the work that needs to get done, it's incumbent on managers to share the burden with their staff. Some managers are hesitant to do this, while others struggle with its implementation. Here are some ideas about assigning a task.click here
