What meaning do you make of the following aphorisms?  How do you make meaning?

You are probably familiar with The early bird gets the worm.

How does your brain process these ideas?      Do you translate each word and then try to make sense of the sentence?      Do you try to think of the same aphorism in your own language?    What connections do you make?     Do you get the hidden parts of these aphorisms?

A large part of reading is about this getting.   Unfortunately,  if English is not your first language,  this is more of a challenge.
